Bringing TRIP back

The TRIP Resurgence project aims to rescue an old forgotten IETF protocol called TRIP (Telephone Routing over IP) that was imagined by the designers of SIP, the VoIP protocol, for the purposes of scalable and accesible telephone routing on the internet.

The project came around as a member of UwUtel shared this protocol on the community, and other members that liked the idea of using TRIP for telephone routing in UwUtel, including the admin.

Unfortunately this protocol never caught on in the world of Telcos, and there is only one publicly available archived implementation of it (others were known but are lost to time now).

We are here to change that, through the implementation a completely new TRIP Routing Daemon (or Location Server in TRIP terms) from the ground up, using modern development techniches and knowledge; and its promotion in the telephone routing industry.

The TRIP Consortium

This project exists thanks to the effort of the TRIP Consortium, which is a set of organizations that believe that the future of telephone routing lies in TRIP.

This consortium sponsors the resources used by the TRIP Resurgence Project and thus the continued existance and development of TRIP software, hardware, its support, associated practises and possibly the further development of the TRIP protocol and technology itself.
